Cherry Trees

One of our Rainier Cherry trees in full bloom, like many other fruit trees, the blooms and the fruit appear on growth 2 years or older. Our Rainier cherry trees are semi dwarf but they grow fast and act like they are full size.

We usually only prune them every two years, although it is healthy for the tree to prune it, it cuts back on our fruit quantity.

These Rainier Cherries are only about a week or so away from being ready to pick. We try to get them before the robins and other birds eat them all. We hang tinfoil wrapped cardboard pieces with fishing line to help keep the birds away, with moderate success.

Most of our Rainier cherries are eaten fresh as we do not care for them canned.

Cherry Pie

We make all of our pies from our pie cherry trees, we have only one variety, Montgomery Pie Cherry, it too is a semi dwarf but we can reach most of the cherries from the ground with a small step ladder.
